THE ROLE OF THE SMC

We provide advice to NHS Boards and their Area Drug and Therapeutics Committees (ADTCs) on the status of newly licensed medicines across Scotland.

We also provide information on new formulations of existing medicines and any major new indications for established products (licensed from 2002).

Pharmaceutical companies are required to fill out a New Product Submission Form before the launch of the product. We aim to issue recommendations as soon as possible.
